History:
The first Reedley Cemetery burials occurred in 1862.
The Reedley Cemetery Association was started on December 8, 1891 and then was
replaced by a vote of the people to become a public District Cemetery in June of
1941. The District covers 107 sq. miles in Fresno County and 11 sq. miles in
Tulare County for a total of 75,666 acres. The District is in Fresno and Tulare
Counties and includes the City of Reedley.
Public Cemetery Districts finance their services through
property taxes, the sale of interment rights, charges for opening and closing of
the burial rights space, outer burial containers, disinterment, and monument
setting fees. The Reedley Cemetery District is an Endowment Care District. The
purpose of Endowment Care funds is to provide for the future maintenance and
care of the Cemetery if and when it becomes full.
The Board of Trustees meetings are held at 7:00 pm on
the third Monday of the month at the Cemetery District office. Trustees
are appointed by the the Fresno County Supervisor for District 4.
Appointments are for a 4 year term. The Board of Trustees and the District
follow the rules of the Brown Act.
